The FAA are working with the Department of Homeland Security and CACI International to design a system for identifying not only the drone, but the operators location to protect airports from rogue operators and their drones.
The clever system triangulates location based on the frequencies we all use to pilot our drones. Picked up by sensors placed around the airport, these can identify drone signals and signals from the base station so they can locate operators flying within controlled zones.
A huge step forward for integrating regular drone traffic into the U.S. aviation system.
Which sounds like companies such as Amazon, Google, DHL etc are going to be able to fly their delivery drones safely avoiding hazardous areas.
